The "Pony" Car: Ford Mustang Made in America

(Photos Ford Glass Roof Mustangs, Ford Company)

It’s been seventy Five 75 years since the Model T made Ford and now the lines between domestic and foreign automakers are so blurred they are virtually indistinguishable.

The first Ford Mustang was shown at the World's Fair in New York in 1964. The first Mustangs cost less than $3,000. Today the starting price for a bare bones model is $20, 995.00.

The Mustang has been America’s favorite muscle car for 45 consecutive years. In May of 2008, Ford built its 9 millionth pony.

Ford Mustangs have final assembly in Flat Rock, Michigan. Before production moved to Flat Rock for the current-generation Mustang (2005 model year to present), all Mustangs were assembled at the same Dearborn, Mich., plant for 40 years. Shelby GT and GT500 KR models get to see Las Vegas, though, as final assembly takes place at Shelby’s production facility out west. The Mustang is made and sold in America with the most American-made parts.

The 2010 Ford Glass Roof Mustang pictured has panoramic glass that filters almost all of the sun's harmful rays and reduces cool-down time and wind noise while offering a convertible-like driving experience.

At $1,995, the new roof provides customers a less expensive option than a convertible, without compromising the coupe’s versatility, headroom or climate-controlled environment.

The Panoramic glass used on the 2010 Ford Glass Roof Mustang filters almost all of the sun's harmful rays and reduces cool-down time and wind noise while offering a convertible-like driving experience. A manual roller blind is built in, allowing owners to further control exposure on sunny days.

Mustangs are available in ten models.
